GLA:D® (www.gladcanada.ca) is an education and exercise program developed by researchers in Denmark for individuals with hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms. Research from the GLA:D® program in Denmark has shown a reduction in progression of symptoms by 27%.
Other outcomes include a reduction in pain intensity, reduced use of joint related pain killers, and fewer individuals on sick leave. Participants have also shown increased levels of physical activity 12 months after starting the program.
This program is unique in that the education and exercises provided can be applied to everyday activities. By strengthening and correcting daily movement patterns, participants will train their bodies to move properly, prevent symptom progression and reduce pain.
Who can participate? Anyone with mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the hip or knee can attend the GLA:D® exercise program.
This is a registered 6 week program. Participants attend classes twice a week for 60 minutes each session. Classes are instructed by Physiotherapists or Kinesiologists.
