Physiotherapy

There are several ways to access physiotherapy service in our clinics.

Private Pay and Extended Health Benefits

Many Albertans have full or partial coverage for physiotherapy through their employer or private health plans.  We provide Direct Billing to Alberta Blue Cross,(ASEBP), GWL, Sunlife and Manulife. Although you do not need a doctor’s referral to receive physiotherapy, some insurance plans require that you submit a referral in order to receive reimbursement. Please check your extended health benefits to see what is required prior to initiating physiotherapy.

Initial Assessment:  $110

Follow Up Treatments:  $70

Albert HealthCare Services

Community Rehabilitation Program (CRP): Alberta Health Services (AHS) provides limited funding for physiotherapy. All Albertans are eligible for an initial assessment of a body region every health care year (April 1- March 31). Following the Assessment, you may be eligible for an additional 2 visits. Additional funding will be available for patients who are either in a low-income tax bracket or who are receiving government subsidies or financial assistance.

Orthopedic Program: If you’ve had surgery or suffered a fracture and are booking within the allotted date range given by AHS, then you may be eligible for Alberta Health Services coverage for your initial evaluation and an additional six physiotherapy treatments.

Workers Compensation Board (WCB)

If you’ve been involved in a worksite injury and a claim has been started with WCB, you may contact our clinic and book in an initial appointment as soon as possible. Workers Compensation board will always cover the initial assessment.  Following that WCB will either approve or deny you for further treatments.  It is important to report your injury as soon as possible and complete the necessary WCB forms.

Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA)

If you have been injured in a motor vehicle collision, whether it was your fault or not, you are entitled to accident benefits.  You must do your best to access a primary care practitioner, such as a physical therapist, within 10 days of the collision.  You do not need a physician’s referral to access our care initially or in most instances to have your treatment covered by your automobile insurance benefits.  If your insurer has suggested another facility, despite what you may have been told, it is important to know that the choice is yours.
