Dry Needling, also called Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) is an effective way to treat muscle spasm and pain associated with muscle strains, ligament sprains, arthritis and nerve irritation.
In Dry Needling, a sterile needle is inserted into a muscle trigger point. Trigger points are not acupuncture points but areas of increased muscle spasm and tension. Inserting the needle causes a stretch reflex reaction and allows the muscle to relax.
Muscles that have been tight for a period of time often “forget” how to relax and stay under tension, causing pain. Dry Needling can be the first step in breaking the pain cycle and helping you regain normal movement.
What we treat:
- Tennis/Golfer’s Elbow
- Shoulder pain
- Hip and IT band pain
- Achilles Tendonitis
- Plantar Faciitis
Dry Needling / IMS can be done alone or in conjunction with other physiotherapy treatment such as corrective exercises and stretches to strengthen and mobilize the area. Dry Needling /IMS as a physiotherapy treatment is covered through most Insurance Benefit programs.
Initial Dry Needling Assessment and Treatment: $110
