Physical Therapy is the direct treatment of physical injuries. We work to assist people to return to their previous functional state – with emphasis on the goals the person has in mind. This might be as simple as getting back to daily activities or as advanced as returning to sports. We strive to educate you about your injury. We want you to understand why you are doing a particular treatment and how to prevent problems in the future.
No, you do not need a referral. Physiotherapists are highly trained in the assessment and treatment of soft tissue injuries. These include ligament sprains, muscle strains, tendonitis, joint and bone injuries, contusions and overuse injuries. However, if you do see a Doctor and have a referral, please bring it with you. Some insurance companies will require that you submit it to be reimbursed your treatment fees.
Studies have shown that those who begin treatment immediately following injury have overall shorter recovery times. You may wish to consult with your physician immediately following your injury to ensure that are no reasons why physiotherapy would not be appropriate.
Yes! You can choose to your own clinic even if you have a referral for another clinic. Bring your referral to your first appointment and we’ll look after the rest!
On your first visit, your physiotherapist will do a complete assessment of your injury to determine exactly what the problem is. Based on the findings and your goals, you and your therapist will determine the best treatment plan to help resolve your injury. You should plan on one hour for the first session.
You should wear comfortable clothing and be able to expose the body part that we will need to examine. We do keep shorts and gowns available if you aren’t able to bring the proper clothing with you.
